ABOUT ABOUT

Penstock Snowshoe Trail – Kananaskis Country

Saturday, January 31 @ 9:00am

Join the NMC for our first beginner snowshoeing trip of 2015! This is a great chance to get outdoors for the day in beautiful Kananaskis Country, connect with others and enjoy some hot chocolate and snacks at the end of the trip.

We’ll be hiking the easy-rated, Penstock Snowshoe Trail near Lower Kananaskis Lake. This is a 5km loop trail with minimal elevation gain, suitable for individuals who are at a beginner level, those who would like to try snowshoeing for the first time, or anyone else who would like to get outside for the day. This trip is open to everyone, including New Muslim Circle members, family members, friends and individuals in the broader Calgary community. Children 16 years or older are welcome, with parental consent.

Carpooling will be our form of transport to Kananaskis. We will be meeting at the Our Lady of the Assumption School parking lot (7311 - 34 Avenue NW, Calgary, AB T3B 1N5) at 9:00am SHARP on Saturday, January 31. We will be back in Calgary by 5:00pm.

This is a full-day trip, so please bring a lunch, snacks and temperature-appropriate winter gear. If the weather and road conditions are not favorable (below -15 degrees C and/or poor winter driving conditions), the trip will be cancelled and moved to the following weekend.

Rentals & Gear

If you don't have snowshoes, winter boots or poles you can rent from the University of Calgary's Outdoor Centre or Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC). Please rent gear early as rentals for snowshoes tend to be booked up quickly.
